Your advantages
The knowledge and skills you will learn from our lectures, seminars,
workshops and personal counseling will give you the advantage of being
able to effectively interact with people from other cultures:
-
You will suddenly understand what the other
actually wants to say.
-
You will be able to express yourself clearly
without necessarily having to speak directly.
-
You will be able to more accurately interpret
what is not said.
-
You will learn how to recognize and reduce
existing communication barriers.
-
You can recognize patterns of speech and
behaviour other than your own which play decisive roles in
intercultural cooperation and negotiations.
-
You can recognize and understand your own
patterns of speech and behaviour, and how they can unintentionally
compromise effective cooperation and negotiations.
-
You will learn how to create a "comfort zone"
when communicating with people from other cultures, and why this is an
essential step to utilizing the maximum potential, even in business
communication.
-
With our "toolbox" you will learn to be
better prepared to deal with all manner of intercultural experiences,
be they spontaneous or planned.
-
You will be able to deal interculturally with
persons and situations faster and with greater ease and
self-confidence.
-
You will learn how to dismantle prejudices, both
yours towards others as well as others' towards you.
In particular, if you were raised in the German culture, you will
profit especially from these advantages:
-
You will make up the head start English native
speakers already have internationally. This is not only a linguistic
advantage but a much more decisive cultural one based on the
"intermediary" position of the Anglo-Saxon culture between "low
context" (e.g. the Northern European, including German) and "high
context" cultures (e.g. the East Asian, Southern European, South
American, African, Oriental, etc.).
-
You will understand the social functions of
specific communication skills (such as small talk, understatement,
indirectness) and learn how to use them. Such skills as these which
are generally not given particular social priority in the German
culture often prove more difficult for Germans, but are nonetheless
essential to "lubricating" intercultural communication.
